Description

When a group had successfully completed the first benchmark, demonstrating their understanding of the packet of myths, they moved onto selecting a creative project from the menu (see Project Launch handouts section). The project options were designed to generate interest and allow students to draw upon specific skills or schema that they already possess. Project options encouraged students to showcase their unique talents while demonstrating mastery of the content.

Groups selected their project and then had to create a backwards plan of activities and goals that would allow them to complete the project by the rehearsal due date. They also received a description of the presentation requirements (see handout below) so that they could incorporate not only the creation of the projects, but also make progress on the other components of the final presentation.

Groups were not allowed to move on to the actual work of the project until their backwards plan was approved by me.

REFLECTIONS & COMMENTS

Author Reflections

Students absolutely needed more scaffolding for the backwards planning process. We did not provide any graphic organizers or tools for that and many students struggled with the level of abstraction in the task.
