Description

Before beginning the filming process, we required students to complete a series of steps in order to think deeply about their proposed film interpretation. Students met as a group to decide what their overall production design would be; we required them also to defend their production design proposals for our approval before allowing them to proceed with the scene.

Author Reflections

I would advise having students defend their proposals for a committee of teachers, parents, and students. Many students did dedicate a significant chunk of time talking about and completing their designs, but others watned to rush through this step. As some of the proposed desgins were somewhat controversial, including others (beyond the classoom teachers) would provide the opportunity to engage in meaningful reflection and dialogue around their proposed topics.
