Description

At this point, students had about two weeks until Exhibition Night. This was the last 'initiatory' day and beyond these activities, students were engaged in the design, drafting, and revision of their projects. A great deal of emphasis was put on project management and goal setting using the provided management tool.

Getting the Project Started

1. Meet in your groups. Share the writing you have done today and the ideas you have.
2. Begin to 'Map' out what your project could look like: As group, begin to lay out the 'stickie notes' with your ideas on them and discuss the different ways in which your ideas are connected. Discuss each group member's point of view and look for common themes. Note: Be sure to have a discussion leader and someone taking notes.

BASED ON THIS DISCUSSION:

Decide:
* What is the message you wish to express? (think of advertising here...what is the "idea" or "product" are you going to sell?)
* Why this message? What does it say about what you value? About what you want others to think about and consider?
* What is your goal?

Brainstorm:
* How are you going to express this idea? (Specifically, what techniques and styles and mediums will you use? Examples: Paper, Collage, Poetry, narrative writing, painting, creative writing, drawing, Photoshop, Garage band, lyrics, letters, objects, etc...)
* How will you combine these elements together into one 'something'? (i.e.: a book, a 'chest', web design, etc...)
* Why are these choices effective for your project?
* What are the most important elements of the project that will most clearly express your message?
* What are the goals and values of your target audience that must be taken into consideration? What do you want their 'experience' to be like?

Create an action plan:
* Who is going to do what? When are they going to do it?
* What materials and technologies do you/will you need?
* What is your time-line for completion? Create a calendar for yourself using the blank model provided.

REFLECTIONS & COMMENTS

Author Reflections

My role at this point in the process solidified into coach, mid-wife, and director. It was fantastic!
